The Cardinals' Monday morning began in art class. Once friends took their seats around the table and did a breathing exercise. Amanda explained that when friends go to their spots at the table, they will see a white piece of paper, for friends to keep their work, a bowl of water and some soft fuzzy stuff. Amanda explained that the soft fuzzy stuff is wool that comes from sheep, and that sometimes artists will dye or paint it different colors. Today, friends used the wool to do felting. Felting is when the wool gets pushed down really hard and makes a piece of fabric. To make the wool into fabric, friends used water and friction. Amanda told the Cardinals that friction is when you press something really hard. Friends practiced by pressing and rubbing their hands together. Using friction, friends made felt beads. To do this, you first wet the wool, then roll it into a bead. Friends can use the beads to make a necklace, bracelet, or any decoration they would like.

Amanda did an example at the table so friends could see and understand what they would be doing today. Amanda took some of the wool, dipped it into the "bath," and when she took it out of the bath, she made sure to give it a little squeeze to get rid of the extra water. Next step was the friction part. Once friends made one felt bead, they placed it on top of their paper and got some more wool to start the process over again.

Before heading to library, we had a class discussion about what friends may want to learn more about. Below is a list of the Cardinals' interests

Thea- cheetahs
Vivian- elephants
Molly- cheetahs
Amelia- bats
Jacob- dinosaurs
Jamesy- dinosaurs
Reyn- dinosaurs
Milan- penguins and bears
Almy- polar bears
Joseph- bunnies
Alycia- rabbits
April- cheetahs
Cameron- bats
Cam- bats
Asa- zebras
James- turtles and fish

In library, friends gathered on the rug to listen to Library Lion. We did not check out any books today, as we just borrowed books last Wednesday and would like more time to look through and read them.

Ask your Cardinal how they used the wool to make a felt bead?

Bonus question: Ask your Cardinal what is friction?
