Today, after lunch, the Cardinals went to the gym to celebrate the Lunar New Year, the year of the rat. A group of lion dancers from the University of Pennsylvania welcomed us. They explained the traditions and customs behind lion dancing. Going on a Lion Hunt

Today in music we began with our weekly routine of instrument exploration and Jambo. Friends enjoy the consistency of these exercises, as well as the time to make music with each other.

Keisha reviewed how we read We're Going on a Lion Hunt last week, and shared that today we would be choosing instruments to go along with the story. Instruments to choose from included bells, shaker eggs, rhythm sticks, drums, and guiros.

First the Cardinals chose an instrument to represent the mud, which was drums. For sticks chose rhythm sticks, trees chose shaker eggs, river chose guiros.

Next, each friend got an instrument that they soon would play to represent the different sounds in the story. Friends were flexible in the instrument that they got, and made sure to practice, "you get what you get and you don't get upset." Keisha started reading the story and friends acted it out. Friends followed along by doing the movements and when it got to their instrument's part, that group played their instrument.

After acting out the story, the Cardinals and Keisha did a round of Ponies.

Ask your Cardinal which instrument they played and what part they played for, whether it was the mud, sticks, trees, or river.
