Meeting for Worship/Music Class/ Team Building Activity

Yesterday, the Cardinals attended their first Meeting for Worship with the whole lower school in the Meeting House. The Cardinals did an outstanding job sitting in silence. We practice sitting in silence each day in the classroom and on Wednesdays we were going to the lower school music room with the Catbirds and the kindergarteners. The end result of our practicing paid off. As we were leaving the Meeting House, a second-grade teacher said to the Cardinals, "I'm really impressed by how well you all sat in silence. You all did a great job!"

Today, after music class with Keisha, we had snack and morning meeting. Followed by the cardinals engaging in an activity called Team Building. The object of this activity was for the Cardinals to work in groups of two friends. They needed to work cooperatively and respectfully to make a creation.

First, we set up eight areas in the classroom with building objects such as marble run, duplos, gears, wooden blocks, shape blocks, crystal connectors, designer blocks, and unifix cubes. We then put eight sets of colored paper in a bag. Each Cardinal picked a color and hid it behind their back so that no one could see what color they had. After everyone picked a color, the Cardinals then revealed what colors they had. Friends then paired up based on their color and went off to choose a building area and to start creating.

After 15 minutes, we give the Cardinals a five minutes warning to finish up their creations and to give it a name. The Cardinals then left their creations and all came to the front rug. We explained that we were going to walk around and look at each creation, just like you would in a real museum. And that we were going to look with our eyes and not touch.

As we went to each area, each pair of builders presented to the group what they created and what it was called. Friends asked questions and gave comments on their peers' designs. Friends explained to one another how they made their structures and what their structures are able to do.

Alycia and Joseph made Castle and a Pool.

Molly and April made The Zoo.

Vivian and Jamesy made a Minnie Mouse Dinosaur.

James and Milan made Rainbow Land and Koopa Troopa

Amelia and Cameron made an Ice City.

                                Thea made Castle World.

Cam and Reyn made a Castle.

The Cardinals did a wonderful job on their first Team Building activity of the year. The Cardinals exhibited teamwork, as well as problem-solving, communication, creativity, and public speaking skills as they completed their work!.

Ask your Cardinal what materials they used to build/what they built?
                        Enjoy this warm November evening!
