Weekend News

Amelia - I was going to meet a friend. I go to Chuck E. Cheese with my grandma and my mommy. I played games there. I played a water game. My mom won two balls and then I played a pop up game and I went on the slide. Then I got more than 100 tickets. Then I put my tickets in the machine and I buyed a toy.

Jamesy - I played with Maisie. I played Peppa Pig.

Asa - I hang out with my mommy. We played fun games and happy games and nice games and sharing games.  I watch Monsters Inc.

Thea - I catched leaves with daddy and Quinny. I went to a park. I slide down the slide. I went to the ice cream shop, a new one. I had mint chocolate chip ice cream in a cone, and Vivian had rainbow ice cream in a cup and that's it.

Molly - I go to a big kid park. I played in a ship and a house. Then I had to go bye.

Reyn - I see my daddy. I go to the movies. I watch Lion King. I play outside.

James - I stayed home. I wiped my nose with comfy doggy and the two others.

Joesph - I go outside. I play with everything. So there is a suck up dry vac that sucks up air and food, but it can't go in the rain. It can only clean up spills like when you get water in the basement. The water was low on the water pressure in the sink, only the bathroom one. Daddy fixed it.

Milan - We just stayed home. I played with my brother. We were tackling each other and playing in my room with my unicorn.

Alycia - I went to the playground and I slide down.

Cameron - I played with Legos. I played with Ninjago.

London - I throw footballs outside. I play train.

Cam - I went to the church on the weekend. I just saw a lot of people. I saw the fire station. It was close to the city. Then I picked up my brother. Then I went home.

Almy - I went on an airplane to Raleigh. I visit Tia Lynn. I stayed there and she was taking care of me while my mom was at work. When I was done over there, I went to visit Ellis. I went to the trampoline because she was there. When I was done over there, I went to the airport to get on a plane to stay here.

April - I went to the playground. I went with grandma. I had lunch at the playground. I went on the monkey bars.

Vivian - On the next day, I went to someone's birthday party where April's birthday party was so I know what to do there. It was Dylan's birthday party.

We began the day with art with Amanda, followed by morning meeting, snack time and then choice time. During choice time, the Cardinals worked on writing their name one on one with teachers. Some friends worked on refining the letter formation of their names. Others worked on first, middle and last names, while other friends began the process of forming letters in their names. We were very excited to see how many friends were eager for their turn. We will spend time one on one with friends each week practicing writing skills.

The mastery of writing your name is developed over time. Each child reaches this stage at their own pace and with practice. This is why one of our morning jobs is for each friend to sign in by writing their name. It does not matter if your child is at the beginning or developed stage of writing their name. What matters is that your child sees this as fun, enjoys writing and is gaining a sense of confidence and pride in their ability to write. The program that we used for writing letters is called Handwriting Without Tears, which all families received in their back to school night folders.  Our sign-in paper has a smiley face at the top left because the focus is to start our letters at the top and to write from left to right, just like reading.

We began the formation of all letters by starting at the top. For example, to make the letter A, we start at the top of the mountain and come down on an angle, then back to the top of the mountain and come down again in an angle leaving space in the middle. The last step is to cross over the mountain by making a line in the middle. This is how A is formed.

April brought in cupcakes to celebrate her 4th birthday. Thank you, April for sharing your birthday with us.
                                Have a wonderful evening!
