Today the lower school had an author visit. Author and illustrator, Angela Dominguez visited us. Lower school classes rotated throughout the day to meet with Angela. First in rotation were the early childhood and kindergarten classes. We gathered in the library, where Angela greeted us and shared some background information on herself. Angela shared that she was born in Mexico City, and moved to Texas when she was very young. At a young age, Angela found her love for books and drawing. Angela shared that she started drawing cartoons and from there her passion grew and grew.
Angela read her book, Let's Go, Hugo! to the whole group. Friends were able to interact while the story was read. Following the story, Angela showed us how to draw the character, Hugo, using shapes.
We read a second book, How do you say? Como se dice? Friends got to show off their Spanish speaking skills with this book! Friends translated words such as hello, good day, party, nap, friends and more.
The Cardinals did such a wonderful job during the author visit! So much so that another teacher said, "Wow, they were incredible!" Upon coming back to our classroom, each friend got to put a pompom in the jar for being such a kind and respectful listener.
After this, the Cardinals had snack and did some small group work. Friends split into three small groups, where a teacher read a book and asked comprehension check questions.
Following our small group work, we went to the gym to run around and make a lot of noise! During the second half of our run around time, we brought out some balls for friends to kick, bounce and shoot around.
Ask your Cardinal what pictures the visiting author, Angela, drew for us.
