The Cardinals had a great time in art class as they explored making a collage. Amanda explained that we are going to be making a collage by gluing on different shapes and then painting them on the small square piece of paper she gave us. Amanda also told the Cardinals that their collages are going to be on display at the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill in December.  The Cardinal's artwork will then be given to the Manna organization to be distributed, along with meals for people who are sick or need help during the holidays to cheer them up. This work goes along with our school theme for the year which is Collective Purpose.

The note below is from Amanda

EC, 1st, and 3rd-grade students will be participating this year at the Kids Care show at the Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill.

Kids Care, a collaboration between the museum and MANNA (Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance), is an annual project where students give artworks as holiday gifts for people in need. Your students' artwork will be on display in the Helen Millard Children's Gallery before being wrapped and delivered with a holiday meal to individuals battling life-threatening illnesses. This year, the Kids Care exhibition will be from November 9-December 15. Students and families are invited to a closing reception for the show on Saturday, December 14, from 2:00-4:00 PM.

After art class, we had a snack of graham crackers with cream cheese and apples.  We read the book Have you Filled a Bucket Today? This book is about being kind to each other. The class had a discussion about what it means to be kind and ways we can be kind. Here is what the Cardinals shared about being kind:

  • You can invite someone over
  • Give flowers to someone
  • Make someone a cake
  • Give kisses to your family
  • You can give someone a hug
  • Say nice things
  • Play together

We then introduced the Kindness Jar to the Cardinals. We explained that when the Cardinals treat each other kindly they can put a pom-pom in the Kindness Jar. However, it was also explained that the Cardinals can not tell a teacher they did something kind. The teachers need to see or hear the kind thing, an announcement will be made, and then the friend or friends get to put a pom-pom in the Kindness Jar. When the Kindness Jar is filled, we will have a kindness party in which the Cardinals will decide what kind of party they want. This is a team effort. Go, Cardinals, you can do it!!

We also spent time exploring and experimenting outside on the playground with the Catbird class.

Ask your Cardinal, how are you a kind friend?

                                 Have a great evening!
