Our First Family Traditions Sharing!

                 Joseph's Family Tradition

This morning, we had Joseph's mom Jessica and his sister Juliette come in to share their family's tradition with us. Joseph introduced his mom and sister to the Cardinal and his friends welcomed them. Then, the fun began with Jessica who told us that in their family they celebrate Christmas and that they count down to Christmas by using an Advent calendar. Joseph and Juliette get to open a door and get a piece of chocolate on the calendar each night counting down to December 25th. Another of Joesph's family's tradition is to visit Feeny's store to see Christmas trees and ornaments each year. Jessica then told us about the different scents of the season and we all got to smell a candle that had the scent of an evergreen tree. Jessica told us an evergreen tree is a Christmas tree and pointed out some evergreen trees right outside our classroom window.

Each Cardinal then got a small bag to fill with holiday scents such as cinnamon sticks, cranberries, and rosemary.

The next activity was making our very own Pomander balls which Joseph's grandmom makes with him. They included small oranges and cloves. The Cardinals each got a pile of cloves to decorated the orange however they wanted.

Thank you, Joseph, Juliette, and Jessica for sharing your family tradition with us!!

                   Alycia's Family Tradition

After rest time, we had another family tradition which was by Alycia's grandmom Dj. Alycia introduced her grandmom to her friends and the Cardinals welcomed her. Dj told us the many people called her mom Dj. Mom Dj told us she does missionary work which includes reading books to children around the world. Mom Dj has done missionary work in India, Central America, Eastern Europe, and many parts of Africa. Mom Dj pulled out a very large book, titled "It's a Perfect Day", and asked the class what they noticed in the picture on the cover. The Cardinals named different animals and the noises they make. Dj asked Alycia and her friends about farm animals and wild animals, and what the differences were. As Mom Dj read the story, the Cardinals were able to interact with the story by making the noises of each farm animal! They read the story along with Mom Dj with lots of excitement. After Mom Dj and the Cardinals finished their story, "It's a Perfect Day," she then gifted a copy to the Cardinals and even signed it! Mom Dj picked out another story from her traveling library of books title "This is the Bear and the Picnic Lunch" and read it to us.  Thank you, Mom Dj, for sharing your tradition of book reading with us, and we can't wait to read "It's a Perfect Day" to you next time!

Thank you, Alycia, for sharing your Grandmom with us !!
