The Cardinals began the first full week of school with their morning jobs, such as washing hands, signing in by writing or receiving help with writing their names. After a short choice time, we were off to art class with Amanda. Friends introduced themselves and talked about what they like to draw. Amanda gave each Cardinal a piece of white paper and a variety of different color pastel crayons to create with. After our masterpieces were finished, the Cardinals came back to the classroom to have morning meeting and a snack. We read stories aloud and then went outside for large motor fun. The Cardinals came in and attended our second resource class for the day. In library class, Michelle, one of our librarians, read us a book about being happy! After a dialogue about the book and what makes us happy, it was time for each Cardinal to pick and check out a book from the Library to bring back to our classroom. Great job, Cardinals!!
Today, the Cardinals had their first Spanish class with Alicia, who is our Spanish teacher. Alicia greeted each Cardinal in Spanish and friends were invited to respond in Spanish to her as well. We also counted up to 10 in Spanish, and sang songs in Spanish such as the Itsy Bitsy Spider and Adios. We had morning meeting on the front rug, which was followed by snack time. We then discussed and made our first batch of playdough. Many friends wanted to help, so we took turns measuring, pouring, getting water and stirring the ingredients. The Cardinals then voted on which color to make our playdough. The choices were red or blue. The Cardinals voted by going to the front rug for the color blue and going to the red rug for the color red. We then counted each group and asked the Cardinals which group had more. We soon proceeded to talk a little about the meaning of more and less. The group with the most friends was blue and so our new batch of playdough is blue. We also talked about having the color red be one of the color choices for our next batch of playdough or flubber! A teacher cooked the playdough and soon it was time for the Cardinals to explore with it!!
Ask you Cardinal how the playdough felt as they played with it?
Have a wonderful evening!
