Monday News

                                         Weekend News

The weekend news is one way to help the Cardinals comprehend and express the difference between something that happened today and yesterday (the present and the past). Weekend News helps to foster friends' recall memory and storytelling. We are not looking for friends to give elaborate dictation now. However, it is welcome if friends choose to do so. We are looking for friends to say something that is not presently happening in the classroom. As the year continues, we will encourage friends to elaborate by giving more details. You can expect to see weekend news each Monday.

Jamesy - I played with mommy.

Cam - I went to the park with mommy. I was swinging on the monkey bars. I went home and sat on the couch and read a book with mommy. It was about penguins.

Molly - Daddy took me to park. I did games.

Amelia - We got pizza. We go to the park. I saw Clark. We kept going up the slide, she got my shoe, she pulled it back down the slide and then I took both of my shoes off and I tried to get up the slide with both of my shoes off and I couldn't so I threw my shoes up the slide. Then go home. The next day, I go to Chuck E. Cheese and I got a 100 tickets. My tooth came out and I go to a birthday party.

Joesph - I went to the playground. Me and Juliet went on the slide.

Milan - I go to someone's party. I bounce on the trampoline.

Vivian - I went to Casey's birthday party and that was where I got the lipgloss. There was pinata full of candy. We had cake. The next day, I went to a baby person party. We had cake and that's mostly it.

London - I go on the airplane. It took me to the sky.

Alycia - I went playground. I was swinging.

James - I went to Top Golf. In that place, you can see how high you can hit. I did that golf.

In art class, the Cardinals worked on making a collage. Amanda told us that collage is a French word for glue. Using our oil pastel drawings from last week, friends added different colors, sizes, and shapes of pieces of paper to create their collages. Amanda showed us how to carefully use the glue stick to paste the pieces of paper on, and as to be sure to not twist it too high so the stick doesn't break. After a brief demo, the Cardinals were called to their designated spots at the tables to start creating their collages. This allows friends to see art as a process, as well as to practice patience, creativity, and design.

After Morning meeting and snack time, the Cardinals had choice time. In a group of children, there are many parts of social interactions that need to be learned as part of the basic skills of socialization. The teachers are spending time on the floor and in different centers of the classroom guiding the Cardinals in being thoughtful friends. We are talking about how we treat each other, such as asking for a turn instead of grabbing, speaking respectfully (kind voice),  expressing dislikes (I don't like it when...), standing up for oneself (I had it first give it back or I don't like it when you touch me like that, it hurts), listening to friends (Can I have a turn when you are finished or I'm sorry). We the teachers are doing lots of modeling of how this work is done as we help to lay the foundation of ways the Cardinals can be respectful to each other.

On Friday, the Cardinals took a walk to upper school. We visited Vivian's mom's office and then Thea's mom and dad's. In Erin's, Thea's mom's classroom, the Cardinals sat in big chairs and drew on the big chalkboard. The big kids were very excited to see us and asked us to come back. What fun friends had!!

                               Have a wonderful evening!
