When the Cardinals sat around the big table in art class this morning, they noticed the clay set out on the tray. Friends noticed that the clay was a different color than last week and that it was hard. Amanda told friends that the clay dried so it became a lighter color and hardened. Also, now that the clay is dry it is fragile so we have to be very careful.
Amanda explained that we would be using a special type of paint called glaze. We used the glaze before to paint cups, but today we used it to paint our clay tiles. The Cardinals learned that the neat thing about glaze is that when it goes into the kiln, the very hot oven to cook the clay, it becomes shiny.
Amanda showed friends how to dip their paintbrushes into the paint, and carefully paint their tiles.
Friends took their spot at the table where their clay tile was and began to paint. Using the different colors set out, the Cardinals used their creative minds to paint intricate designs on their tiles.
During choice time, friends were called over to work on their March self-portraits. Looking at their work from September up until now is truly so exciting to see. To watch friends' perceptions of themselves evolve is so neat to observe. Friends are noticing different parts of themselves, such eyebrows and particular designs on their clothes, and are making sure to add it onto their drawings. We can't wait for you all to get your Cardinals' portraits at the end of the year, and to see the growth and transformation!
Ask your Cardinal what colors they used to paint their clay tile (or clay cookie).
